The 2BHK flat is the most common residential configuration in Bangalore, accounting for the majority of apartment purchases in areas like Whitefield, Sarjapur Road, HSR Layout, and Electronic City. It is also the most Vastu-assessed property type we handle at Vardhini Vastu — because the two-bedroom layout introduces decisions and directional complexities that a 1BHK does not have: which bedroom is the master, who sleeps where, and how the second bedroom is used (guest, children, or home office) all affect the Vastu prescription. The VIDS™ 16-zone methodology addresses each of these configurations with precision.
The 2BHK Vastu Challenge: Two Bedrooms, One Floor Plan
In a typical 600–950 square foot 2BHK, the flat has one living-dining zone, one kitchen, one or two bathrooms, and two bedrooms. The challenge is that the directional zones of both bedrooms matter simultaneously — not just the master bedroom. In classical Vastu, each room type has an optimal directional placement. When two bedrooms must fit into a fixed floor plan, one will always be in a less-than-ideal zone. The VIDS™ framework determines which room should be used as the master bedroom, which bedroom should be assigned to which family member, and what corrections — all non-demolition — are needed for the secondary bedroom to function well.
Entrance Direction: The First Assessment
As with any flat, the entrance sub-zone is assessed first. Using the VIDS™ 16-zone grid, the entrance bearing is measured to the nearest degree and mapped to one of the 64 pada positions. For a 2BHK household that typically includes a couple and possibly children or elderly parents, the most beneficial entrance sub-zones are:
North sub-zones 3 and 4 (Soma and Bhallat padas): strong career growth, household harmony, and financial opportunity. Ideal for young professional couples.
East sub-zones 4 and 5 (Jayanta and Mahendra padas): social recognition, health, and stability. Excellent for families with children.
West sub-zones 3 and 4 (Sugrīva and Pushpadanta padas): stability and creative professions. Manageable for most 2BHK households.
The Aparajitapṛcchā, the 12th-century Sanskrit architectural text being translated by Raghavendra Hebbur, documents 45 specific door placement positions in its dvāra vinyasa chapter — the granular directional detail underlying the VIDS™ classification system used at Vardhini Vastu.
Master Bedroom Placement in a 2BHK
The master bedroom should occupy the south-west, south, or west quadrant of the flat. These zones govern stability, permanence, and the grounding energy that a master bedroom must carry. The head of the household sleeping in the south-west aligns with the earth element zone, which classical texts consistently associate with authority, health, and financial decisiveness.
In most Bangalore 2BHK floor plans, the two bedrooms are placed either both on the south side, both on the north side, or diagonally (one south, one north or east). The south or south-west bedroom is always designated the master in a VIDS™ assessment.
Sleeping Direction in the Master Bedroom
Head toward south: ideal for adults, promotes deep sleep and a sense of stability. Head toward east: good for active professionals, associated with wakefulness and intellectual energy. Head toward north: to be avoided in permanent sleeping arrangements — the body's polarity opposes earth's magnetic field when sleeping northward, disturbing natural sleep cycles.
Second Bedroom: Guest Room, Children's Room, or Home Office
The function assigned to the second bedroom changes the Vastu correction priorities significantly.
Second Bedroom as Children's Room
Children benefit most from an east or north bedroom — zones associated with clarity, learning, and active growth energy. The study area within the children's room should face east. Bookshelves should be on the west or south walls. No mirror should face the bed. Head direction for children: east (promotes learning) or south (promotes health).
Second Bedroom as Guest Room
A guest room in the north-west zone is considered auspicious in classical Vastu — north-west is the zone of Vayu (air), associated with movement and transience, which aligns well with the temporary nature of guest stays. If your second bedroom is in the north-west, this is actually the ideal use for it.
Second Bedroom as Home Office
Working from home has made the home office bedroom combination extremely common in Bangalore 2BHK flats. The ideal zones for a home office are north and east — north for financial clarity and opportunity (Kubera zone), east for focus and outward-facing career energy. If the second bedroom is in the north or east of the flat, this is the optimal configuration for remote work. The desk should face north or east. Avoid sitting with the back to the entrance door of the room.
Kitchen Vastu in a 2BHK
The kitchen fire zone belongs in the south-east of the flat. This is the Agni zone in the 16-zone VIDS™ grid, and it is where cooking energy aligns most naturally with the directional flow of the space. In a 2BHK with a larger kitchen than a typical 1BHK, there is more scope to optimise the internal placement of the cooking platform and sink.
Key kitchen rules for a 2BHK: the cook should face east or south. The sink (water) and cooking platform (fire) should not share the same north-east corner. Heavy pantry shelving belongs on the south or west wall. The north-east corner of the kitchen should always be the lightest, most open area — never used for storage or appliances.
North-west kitchen: fairly common in Bangalore builder floor plans. Manageable — emphasise east-facing cooking and keep a lamp in the south-east corner of the kitchen.
North-east kitchen: the most significant kitchen defect. Apply the same zero-demolition correction protocol as for 1BHK: east-facing stove, clear north-east corner, compensating light source. This defect is linked in practice to persistent health issues for the primary cook and irregular financial flow for the household.
Pooja Room in a 2BHK
The 2BHK is large enough to accommodate a dedicated pooja space, even if only a wall-mounted shelf. The north-east zone of the flat is the ideal location for the pooja room or prayer corner. The deity faces west and the devotee faces east — or the deity faces east and the devotee faces west. Both orientations are valid; the critical factor is that the pooja zone itself is in the north-east and is kept scrupulously clean and free from clutter.
If the north-east zone of your 2BHK is occupied by a toilet or storage (a common builder defect), the next best pooja placement is the east wall of the living room.
Bathrooms and Toilets in a 2BHK
A 2BHK typically has two bathrooms — one attached to the master bedroom and one common bathroom. The attached master bathroom is most commonly in the south-west or north-west of the bedroom, both of which are acceptable placements. The common bathroom is ideally in the south, west, or north-west zone of the flat.
Problematic placements to assess: north-east bathroom (the most defective placement — see correction protocol above), south-east bathroom attached to kitchen (creates fire-waste zone conflict), and bathrooms that share a wall with the kitchen on the north-east side.
Living and Dining Zone
In a 2BHK, the living and dining areas may be combined or semi-separate. The north or east zone of the flat should house the lighter, more open living area. Heavy furniture — sofa sets, dining tables, television cabinets — should be placed on the south or west walls, with clear space preserved on the north and east sides. The television should not face east (the viewer facing west is acceptable, but east-facing screens are structurally problematic in long-term energy terms).
Common Vastu Defects in Bangalore 2BHK Apartments
Based on VIDS™ assessments conducted across 400+ Bangalore 2BHK units, the five most frequently found defects are:
1. North-east toilet or bathroom — found in approximately 30% of pre-2010 builder flats in East Bangalore.
2. Main entrance in a south-west or south-south-west pada — often creates financial friction and health-related stress for the primary earner.
3. Master bedroom in the north-east quadrant — common in east-facing builder layouts; creates restlessness and clarity issues for the household head.
4. Kitchen in the north or north-west without stove correction — stove facing north is the root cause of irregular household income patterns in Vastu diagnosis.
5. Heavy storage (almirahs, wardrobes) placed in north-east bedroom corners — blocks the clarity zone and is directly linked to decision-making difficulties and mental fatigue.
VIDS™ Consultation Process for a 2BHK
A standard VIDS™ consultation for a Bangalore 2BHK covers the complete floor plan across all 16 directional zones, with specific recommendations for each room. The process includes: degree-accurate entrance measurement; zone-by-zone defect identification; sleeping direction and furniture placement for each bedroom; kitchen stove and sink optimisation; pooja room or corner designation; and a full written correction report with annotated floor plan.
Online consultations are available via video call for clients across India and internationally — you share the floor plan in advance and we conduct the compass calibration walkthrough together during the session. In-person consultations are conducted across Bangalore including Whitefield, HSR Layout, Koramangala, Sarjapur Road, Electronic City, Marathahalli, Hebbal, JP Nagar, and Jayanagar. All corrections are non-demolition: no walls moved, no construction required.
Frequently Asked Questions — Vastu for 2BHK Flat
Which bedroom should be the master bedroom in a 2BHK — the larger or the south-west one?
Directional placement takes priority over size in Vastu. The bedroom in the south-west, south, or west zone of the flat should be the master bedroom, regardless of which room is physically larger. Using a larger north or north-east bedroom as the master creates instability for the household head over time. If necessary, the furniture arrangement within the south-west bedroom can be optimised to maximise usable space.
Can I use the second bedroom as a home office without Vastu problems?
Yes, and a north or east bedroom is actually ideal for a home office. Face north or east while working. Position your desk so that you are not sitting with your back to the entrance door. Heavy bookshelves should be on the south or west wall. Avoid mirrors facing your workspace. If the home office bedroom is in the south-west or south, these corrections still apply but add: use warm lighting, keep the space consistently tidy, and introduce a plant on the east side of the room.
We are buying a new 2BHK. What should we check before signing?
Three things. First, the entrance pada: measure the door bearing with a compass and identify which of the 16 VIDS™ sub-zones it falls in. Avoid south-west, south-south-west, and south-south-east sub-zones 2 through 4 as primary entrances. Second, the north-east zone: check the floor plan to confirm the north-east is free from toilet, kitchen, or bedroom. Third, the master bedroom zone: confirm the south-west bedroom is available and appropriately sized for your use. A pre-purchase VIDS™ assessment, conducted with the builder's floor plan and a site visit, takes 60 minutes and can prevent years of living with an incompatible home.n
